Highly
polished bronze portholes include
finish ring and corresponding threaded flat head bolts.
Porthole hinges contain adjusting screws for gasket
compression. Portholes contain laminated safety glass.
Porthole insect screens are included.
The portholes open to the inside /
the finishing ring (included) mounts on the outside (in
the weather). Porthole chains (to hold the porthole
windows open) are available.
Replaceable parts include
the porthole gasket, laminated safety glass, porthole
finishing ring, porthole studs, porthole dogs and porthole
window screens.
The 6" bronze porthole has 2 bronze
porthole dogs.

Material FYI: "Brass" is Copper and Zinc. "Bronze"
is Copper and Tin. The alloy we are using is ASTM B62/B584 (formerly known
as B145-4A), or simply named "85-5-5-5" alloy (copper=85%, zinc=5%, tin=5%
& lead=5%). So, what we are using is somewhat of a hybrid between the two.
It has the strength of bronze (because of the tin), but the workability of
brass (because of the inclusion of zinc and lead). This hybrid is commonly
referred to as all of the following: "naval bronze", "naval brass",
"composition bronze" and "red brass". |

Shipping
time FYI for ABI products: This product will
ship direct to you from ABI in Santa Rosa, California. It generally
takes them 10 business days to process an order.
Then it will take the shipping
company (UPS or FedEx) a business
day or two in transit on the west coast, or a week to 8 business days to
the east coast, depending on your location.
Expediting
Orders from ABI: You
may ask for Next Day, 2nd Day or 3 Day freight (for which the freight
company will require a surcharge).
These expedited orders do normally get shipped promptly, provided the product is in stock and
provided
you place your order before 11:00 am, Pacific Time for ABI products (we do need time to get
the order to ABI, and in periods of heavy volume, the earlier you order,
the better the odds).

California, direct to you. We recommend that you get a stock check before
placing your order. We can check
with ABI for you, or you may call ABI at 800-422-1301:
provide them with the ABI-part numbers and quantities desired

Note
A: These
portholes can accommodate a
wall thickness
up to and including the stated cabin wall thickness
above, while being properly sealed for water-tightness.
For Thinner
Walls,
there is no minimum thickness requirement (on thinner
walls, the spigot (flange) will protrude through the
finishing ring on the outside of the porthole assembly -
this is purely aesthetic and can be left as is or
trimmed off).
For Thicker Walls,
as for commercial or residential building or door use
(non-boat use), the portholes can be installed in
thicker walls/doors, however the inside and outside
portions of the portholes will not meet. This can be
dealt with in several ways (i.e. you can seal the edges
with caulking or you can have a craftsman make a
transitional spigot (flange) to make the 2 sides meet).
This is up to you, based on aesthetics and waterproofing
requirements associated with your application. |
